Summer, the stifling heat

Summer, the stifling heat,

Parched lands seeking water.

Lands scorched by the sun.

Makes living a tough feat,

Water becomes a precious matter.

Summer meetings are called for a solution,

To find a water source in lands which has none.

Yet in this summer, will we find absolution?

Today’s prompt comes to us from TJ Kearney, who invites us to try a seven-line poem called a san san, which means “three three” in Chinese (It’s also a term of art in the game Go). The san san has some things in common with the tritina, including repetition and rhyme. In particular, the san san repeats, three times, each of three terms or images. The seven lines rhyme in the pattern a-b-c-a-b-d-c-d.

I was unsure of what to write about. Then power went off. In this stifling Summer, heat what else can I write about? The heat this year is seriously high.

Reading daily news brings so many stories of people struggling to get even drinking water. Yet in our life how much water do we waste? Only when we encounter such issue in our lives do we even think others in worse situation than us.

Despite writing all this. In the end I am just as selfish as the rest of them. I just want power to come back.  I don’t know if the poem came out in the way it was supposed to be.. But I am happy with it..

(This was in my draft for the past 7 hours, I tried to stay up thinking I will post it before I sleep. But no power yet. And the night really was stifling hot. I literally dreamt my whole poem again cause of the heat. Posting now by mobile. All hopes lost on when power will be back).
