A Hypersonic Journey

Flying fast, above supersonic
At Mach 5, going  hypersonic.
What is a Mach? Sound Barrier you say?
Yet its just another boundary,
To be crossed at its own pace.

Hypersonic Aerodynamics,
Tis just another flow,
With fine shock layers, thinner than before.
Yet at low Reynolds number,
The Boundary layer grows thick,
Merging with the shock wave
Giving us a viscous shock layer.

You would think the nose would be super thin,
Yet for Hypersonic, Blunt is in.
For when you go at speeds above Mach 5,
Heated you will get, by attached shock,
At that point of time, the bunt nose comes by,
To create life saving,  separated shock.
Although the heat be high, the surface is more.
And with a spread, the blunt nose saves the day.

This is just the beginning, there is so much more,
What with entropy layer and viscous effects?
And Pressure coefficient with the Sine squared law,
Oh! did I mention non-linearly varying lift coefficient with concavity?
This may sound Greek and Latin to you,
Yet it is all Aerospace to me.

NaPoWriMo 2016 Day 17

The prompt was

Today, I challenge you to find, either on your shelves or online, a specialized dictionary. This could be, for example, a dictionary of nautical terms, or woodworking terms, or geology terms. Anything, really, so long as it’s not a standard dictionary! Now write a poem that incorporates at least ten words from your specialized source. Happy writing!

I didn’t necessarily have a dictionary as such of different terms. But I did take my ‘Introduction to Flight‘ textbook, Picked few Hypersonic related terms and made poem out of it.  In the end I ended up with a technical Hypersonic Poem. I tried to make it simple but not sure how it turned out.

This is dedicated to the Hypersonic Bros 🙂
